Learn more about the FCCs Emergency Broadband Benefit

Dear Mozilla Supporter,

Have you heard about the new Federal Communications Commission (FCC) program to help Americans with their internet bills?

The subsidy program — the Emergency Broadband Benefit — launched in May as a way to help Americans struggling to afford broadband internet particularly during the pandemic. The $3.2 billion fund is available until it's depleted or up to six months after the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services declares the pandemic over.

Not sure if you're eligible? Learn more and apply on the official FCC website.

And please be sure to help your friends and family determine their eligibility by sharing on Twitter, Facebook or by Email.

Since it's unclear how many people will apply and how long the funds will last, it's a good idea to apply and spread the word right away!

While this may be an imperfect solution to the problem of unaffordable broadband internet, it can bring temporary relief to millions of Americans who need it. There is still work to do to bring truly affordable broadband internet to people across the U.S., but in the meantime, we want to make sure you or your loved ones don't miss the opportunity to apply for EBB if you're eligible. See more details below and visit the FCC website.

Here's more detailed information about this program and eligibility:

What is the EBB?
  • A $3.2 billion federal fund to help Americans pay for broadband internet access during the pandemic
  • Eligible households are given a discount off the cost of broadband service
    • Discount per household: up to $50/mo, $75/mo on qualifying tribal lands
  • Providers are reimbursed for the cost
  • Concludes when the fund runs out, or six months after the pandemic is declared over
Who is eligible?
You're eligible if you meet one of the following criteria:
  • Experienced a substantial loss of income due to job loss or furlough since Feb 29 2020, and had an income of $99,000 or less prior to that ($198,000 filing jointly);
  • Are at or below 135% of Federal Poverty Guidelines for income;
  • Participate in SNAP, Medicaid, or Lifeline;
  • Are approved to receive benefits under the free and reduced-price school lunch program; or
  • Received a Federal Pell Grant during the current award year.
Millions of households are likely eligible for the EBB, including people who don't meet the criteria above. Learn more and apply on the official FCC website.

Thanks for being a supporter of internet access,
